Legal Prep Charter Academy is a small school on the Westside of Chicago. It was founded in 2012 and is located in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. It is a school that focuses on helping students develop skills that lawyers possess. With their low enrollment and focus on academics, basketball hasn’t been something the school has invested in.
However, all of that has changed over the last few years as coach Andre Rogers has taken over the program.
A westside resident who has had many coaching stops over the years, including currently coaching the Chicago Demons (2021) Travel Team. Coach Rogers has used his energy and drive to help build a culture of passion and teamwork that is showing on the court. His ability to communicate with other coaches as well as student athletes gives hope for the future for the little school in West Garfield Park. The challenge will come as Legal Prep battling for the best talent on the westside with a couple of city basketball powers in Orr and Westinghouse. Both of those schools are less than 2 miles away. Marshall, another school that has great tradition is even closer to Legal Prep as it’s just over a mile away. Though there are many areas where they may be behind, one area where coach will not fall short is putting in the work. ChiScoops sources have heard that coach holds 6am practices five days a week during the season. This is a commitment from the players and coaches that will only help this program grow.
Led by 6-6 rebounding and dunking machine Jonathan Oden (senior), this team has shown the ability to compete with mediocre competition, beat developing competition, and play hard against better competition. While this program is a few years away from challenging for any championships and competing for the (White) conference championship, they are a team you must come prepared to play!
In closing, Coach Rogers is looking to get a nice return out of that investment he made into his squad!
• Coach Andre Rogers comes in a coach on the rise in the city and our #4 coach in the White West.
